New students receive a spring communication, including how to obtain access to your W&L e-mail, a summer timeline, and what forms need to be filled out. First-Years are expected to utilize their W&L e-mail accounts and to check their e-mail daily since this is the primary way the University conducts its business with students.

First-Year Orientation introduces the newest members of our community to those Washington and Lee traditions which are central, both philosophically and functionally, to the University. The Honor system, speaking tradition, student self-governance, undergraduate curriculum, educational and social events, student organizations and meeting fellow classmates are just a few of the many highlights of the Orientation program.

Your first year at Washington and Lee will be an exciting and overwhelming experience. You will find many ways to get involved with academics and activities. There are plenty of resources available should you need academic help, counseling services, questions answered about future careers, and more.
