SUMMER 2025

The Summer Institute of Music Technology (SIMT) at Steinhardt is a 2-week intensive program designed for rising high school juniors and seniors who wish to explore and deepen their understanding of music and audio technology.  Designed for student musicians and producers alike, the course explores studio production techniques for recorded music, electronic music production, music and audio hardware development, and much more.  Students will interact with and learn from NYU Steinhardt Music Technology faculty as well as a roster of guest artists and workshop leaders with backgrounds in studio recording, live electronic music performance, computer music and programming, mixing and mastering, and collaborative music-making.  Students attending the program will also interact with current Music Technology student staff and hear from alumni of the department's undergraduate and masters programs. SIMT includes informative lectures and masterclasses in focused areas of music and audio technology, but principally will challenge students to work both independently and collaboratively to create new and original musical works by combining their pre-existing knowledge with newfound technologies and techniques.  SIMT is designed to provide students with a detailed tour of the ever-expanding world of music and audio production technology, and is especially well-suited for students wishing to pursue relevant fields in higher education.
