2024 Summer Program for Minority and Women High School Students


Dear Teacher,

Manhattan College is hosting a 2024 Summer Program for Minority and Women High School Students interested in Engineering and Science. This program has been co-sponsored by the ACE Mentorship Program, Metropolitan Section of ASCE, New York Building Foundation, General Contractors' Association, The Richard and Barbara Whitcomb Foundation, The New York State Power Authority, as well as corporate sponsors. All programs and related program details are subject to change based on funding.

Ten-day Program:
July 8th through 12th
July 15th through the 19th
8:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Six Day Programs

Session 1:
June 24rd through June 29th  
8:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Session 2:
July 22nd through July 26th and Monday, July 29th
8:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Students will receive certificates of participation and can note this summer activity when applying to college. Leisure activities are also being planned for the students. If you have students who are interested in participating in the program, please have them return the attached application IMMEDIATELY, by email to cwalsh07@manhattan.edu to be considered for this program. Summer Programs for Minority and Women High School Students Interested In
Engineering and Science 

-SUMMER 2024-


This is an engineering awareness program which will include lectures and laboratory experiences related to concepts in science and the various engineering disciplines such as civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical, environmental, and computer engineering. Attention will be given to analyzing material properties and how they relate to design of structures. Applying to college and financial aid will be looked into. Career opportunities in engineering and related fields, such as law, business, education, and medicine will be discussed. Laboratory experiences in aerospace, structural design, green buildings, computer aided design, robotics, Al strategies and biology, are being planned. There is no charge for the program to the students.

This is a ten-day program which includes all of the following dates and times:

July 8 through 12 from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM

July 15 through 19 from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM

High school student interest in the above program has led to the creation of two more programs which are similar in content and are called the Women and Minority Engineering Summer Extension Program I or II for High School Students. It is anticipated that Extension Program I will be sponsored by the New York Building Foundation, and Extension Program II will be sponsored by the General Contractors Association. Student applicants not accepted to the 10-day program will be considered for the six-day program if interested. All programs and related program details are subject to change based on funding.

These six-day programs will run:

  • Extension Program I:  Monday, June 24 through Saturday, June 29 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Extension Program II:  Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26 and Monday, July 29 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

All programs and related program details are subject to change based on funding.
