SEVP Addresses COVID-19 and Fall 2020

July 07, 2020

On July 6, 2020, the U.S. government issued advance notice of new regulations regarding online courses and the fall semester for students in F-1 status. In short, our international students enrolled in programs operating entirely online are not eligible to stay in the U.S.  Students engaged in hybrid programs where there is a mixture of online and in-person classes will be allowed to take more than one class, or three credit hours, online but may only take the minimum number of online classes required to make normal progress in their degree programs.

For the fall 2020 semester, continuing students outside of the United States, whose programs are only offered online, may remain in active SEVIS status if they are able to meet the normal full course of study requirements or the requirements for a reduced course of study.

ISSO is parsing the advance notice and is working closely with the schools on its implications. More as soon as we have it.
