Drawing from Largest-Ever Applicant Pool, Le Moyne Exceeds Enrollment Goals for Fourth Consecutive Year

Continuing diversity trend, the Class of 2025 is Le Moyne’s fifth-largest

Le Moyne College’s strong record of enrolling students from an increasingly larger geographic footprint with more diversity continued with the class of 2025. With more than 640 students, the class is the fifth-largest in the College's 75-year history and will be welcomed to the Heights on Saturday, Aug. 14.

“I am heartened by and grateful for our on-going success in attracting students to Le Moyne,” said Le Moyne President Linda LeMura. “Despite the highly competitive nature of higher education throughout the Northeast, students and their families are choosing to come to Le Moyne because of our academic reputation, the close interaction between faculty and students, small class sizes and the overall personal attention, or cura personalis, that defines Jesuit education.”

Even with the pandemic still impacting admission events with a limited number of small group or individual tours, the College continued its recent enrollment success at both the undergraduate and graduate level. “It has been very gratifying seeing how successful our team has been in bringing in a strong and diverse class despite the many challenges we have faced,” said Tim Lee, vice president for enrollment management at Le Moyne. “Our faculty were readily available, our current students were able to share their experiences, and that really seemed to resonate with our admitted students.”

The class of 2025 continued Le Moyne’s recent trend related to diversity. For the third consecutive year, more than 25 percent of the first-year class identified as multicultural. The College’s trend toward geographic diversity also continued, with two-thirds coming from outside Central New York, and 20 states and six countries represented in the class. The College will also welcome more than 100 undergraduate transfers.

The academic profile for first-year students remains strong, with an average GPA of more than 3.5. The most popular declared majors included biology, nursing, psychology, business administration, accounting, marketing, physics, political science, computer science and criminology.

Numbers within graduate programs also exceeded expectations. Graduate program success included strong enrollment in the Masters of Arts Administration and in Le Moyne’s healthcare offerings, such as Family Nurse PractitionerOccupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies. There was also record enrollment in two MBA concentrations in leadership and analytics that launched in 2020, as well as a new concentration for fall 2021 in marketing, all offered through the Madden School of Business. The College also had a record number of applicants for its first-ever doctoral program, an Ed.D. in executive leadership, which started in 2019.

One key to the recent enrollment success is the ongoing popularity of Promise NY. This comprehensive program not only provides additional financial assistance, but also promises to keep students on a path to graduate in four years, connect every student with a mentor, and provide an internship opportunity and job interview. Also helping recruitment were several enhanced admission efforts, including conducting admitted student interviews with Le Moyne alumni and connecting prospective students with members of the faculty and career advising professionals at events both in-person and virtually.

Another strong element that differentiates Le Moyne from its competitors is the College’s innovative Manresa Program. A four-year experience that begins second semester freshman year, the Manresa Program engages small student groups, facilitated by Le Moyne faculty and administrators, in seminars and exercises focusing on personal exploration, development of core values, practical tools to help with career development and a richer sense of success in vocation and profession. In addition to Manresa, another popular element of the College’s Career Advising Office is the introduction last summer of the new Le Moyne Community Internship Initiative, which focuses on internship opportunities for first- and second-year students.

Le Moyne continues to enjoy success in various rankings. In U.S. News & World Report 2021 rankings release in September 2020, within the Northeast Regional Universities category, the College was #17 overall, #8 in “Best Value Schools,” #7 in "Strong Commitment to Undergraduate Teaching," #17 on the Most Innovative Schools listing and #7 in the “Best College for Veterans” category. Four Madden School of Business programs were also ranked nationally – management information systems (#27), finance (#30), MBA in analytics (#33) and accounting (#52), while two programs in the Purcell School of Professional Studies were also ranked: Physician Assistant Studies at #64 and Occupational Therapy at #141. Among the nation’s 820 small private business schools, the Madden School ranks #10. For the eighth straight year, Le Moyne was listed as one of The Princeton Review's top 368 colleges and was also in the top 12 percent of institutions based on return on investment by the Georgetown University Center for Education and Workforce.
