About the Program

The program was cohosted by Chicago Booth and Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management on November 6. Both schools hosted a diverse group of promising undergraduate students and introduced them to research at the doctoral level. The goal of this program was to support and encourage student and faculty diversity in business schools. Thank you to our wonderful scholars for participating!

Participants got the opportunity to:

• Learn about doctoral-level research in business
• Get information about graduate school opportunities
• Receive advice and insights on the application process
• Meet and interact with current doctoral students and faculty
• Discuss careers in research and teaching

Ideal candidates for future iterations of the IDDEAS program are current college sophomores, juniors, or seniors with strong quantitative skills and academic records. Because of its strong belief in the value of diversity (broadly defined) in the pursuit of its educational mission, Chicago Booth strongly encourages participation from students who bring to bear on the educational experience a diversity of viewpoints, backgrounds, and experiences, including groups that historically have been underrepresented in business schools.

The IDDEAS @Booth/Kellogg event is scheduled on a bi-annual basis. The next application cycle for IDDEAS @Booth/Kellogg will open in Spring/Summer of 2025.

In the interim, the Berkeley Haas School of Business will host this year's iteration of IDDEAS from August 5-6, 2024. Please find details copied below:

For those seeking additional opportunities to learn more about doctoral research at business schools, consider participating in this year's iteration of Discover UChicago, where Stevens Doctoral Program representatives will shed light on the application process and program, as well as navigating academic life at Chicago Booth. You may also participate in the event to hear about other programs at the University.

Discover UChicago: As part of the University of Chicago’s ongoing commitment to equity in graduate education, Discover UChicago is a two-day program that introduces third-year undergraduates to the prospect of pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree at a selective, research institution. Through interactive and candid workshops students will engage with faculty, students, and staff who work towards the common goal of diversifying graduate education. This experience is intended to acquaint participants with what graduate education entails and equip them with skills for thriving at UChicago and other graduate institutions alike. Participants in this program will leave inspired by a sense of belonging, informed by helpful training and resources, and encouraged to dismantle the barriers that hinder their access to pursuing graduate education.

History

The IDDEAS program originated at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania to support and encourage student and faculty diversity. It is our shared goal that the IDDEAS program will expose students from diverse backgrounds to the rich possibilities of careers in research and academia.
